“And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.” (Acts 14:11-14)
The aposltes restrained the people from sacrificing to them, of course, but only barely.
And the strangest thing happened. Many of the Lyconians fell into the same trap that the Pharisees did.. The Pharisees wanted the Messiah described as the “Conquering King” who would throw out the Romans and restore the Kingdom to Israel. They would not accept the Suffering Servant Messiah. And some of the lycoanians , after they discovered what God was invilved, rejected the real God:
“And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day they departed with Barnabas to Derbe. “
The real God has come down in person to us. We weren’t trhere at trhe time, but we have the statements of the witnesses.. Let those who have ears to hear, hear. Don’t turn your back on the Onw Qgo died for you just because He is not what you were hoping for. He is much much more than you or I could ever have imagined!

God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit deserve praise. Many times, people make up compliments about people they are introducing at a conference or banquet, and those compliments may be far from true. But God in all three persons deserves our praise. We literally do not have time in this life to give God the honor and praise and fervent thanks He deserves. We will have that time in Eternity!
Praising God is not just endlessly bowing down and repeating, “We praise You, Lord!”
Here in the South there’s a very aggravating compliment people pay when they really don’t care about you or anything you’ve done, but they hear an echo of “be p[olite”. Such people will say, “I appreciate you.” What does that mean? It’s a quick cheap way of getting a perceived social duty out of the way without wasting time on someone they honestly do not appreciate.
Real praise describesd WHY we appreciate or love or respect someone. The best example I have seen of that in the biological field is the John 10:10 Project. Brothers and sisters in Christ, there are a billion times a billion reasons WHY God is worthy of praise. THe John 10:10 Project lists and explains in spectacular videos just a few of those reasons. And this is just the biological realm! THere’s the spritual realm, the practical help God gives His children that is often so precise as to time and need that it qualifies (I beleive) as a miracle!
