Resis the devil – YES! We are not called on to fight the devil or a demon. But resist the temptations he / they put in our path, yes! Decades ago, one former heroin addict stated it very clearly: “If you stick that needle in your arm, God’s not going to pull it out for you.”
BUT we can and do ask God for His help in resisting temptation! When I feel a temptation tugging on me, the first thing I do is “report it to God”. Usually that’s enough to make it go away. If not, then I ask God for help of some kind in resisting. Like, unfortunately, every other human, I’m not 100%successful, but when I fail, it’s because I did’nt follow those two steps.

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Yes! That’s the formula! Submit ourselves to God and resist the devil. We must be careful not to get the two mixed up. King Jesus warned Hid disciples not to be deceived, because many false Chrsits would come in His name. The apostle Paul warned that in the last days, “evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
How can we avoid being deceived? The same as always:
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)
For Chrisitans, that also includes the New Testament. And all that the Bible has to say on any topic. If we don’t study the whole Word of God, we become spiritually malnourished. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit can use Bible reading and study that goes through the entire Bible to give us wisdom and understanding that will p;ortect us from being deceived!
