John 13, the entire chapter, is an example to us that should make us humble. Partial quotes:

Not begrudgingly out of duty] … Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God [knowing we have a guaranteed future of eternal joy, we should be able to give of ourselves very easily] rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself … He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded … when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, ‘Do you know what I have done to you? The Co-Creator of the Universe, washing the sweaty smelly feet of His disciples. We have the ultimate example of a servant’s heart to follow. May God show us how to serve and show us which of our brothers and sisters need our service!
