The greatest commandment:
“Thou shalt LOVE the LORD thy GOD with all thy Heart, and with all thy Soul, and with all thy Strength, and with all thy Mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”” (Luke 10:27)
SYMPTOMS:
If we love God: “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” (John 14:21:)
It is normal and good to love (but not to worship) yourself:
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it … So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:” (Ephesians 5:25 and 28-29)
SUMMARY: if we love God, we will love ourselves (and husbands will love their wives) and we will love our neighbors as we love ourselves. If these “symptom” are not present in a believer’s life, that person needs to talk to God about their absence. They’re good, reliable symptoms of our spiritual condition.
And “love” is not necessarily “feeling good about”. That too, very likely, but love, in this context, means to take care of, to look out for, in a practical sense. Not grudgingly and not turning a blind eye to a need.
When we are born again, these traits begin to appear even if they weren’t present in us before. Because “… whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29)

This is one beautiful and really important post, Kristi. Your emphasis on God’s love is important for people top know. As believers, remembering that God loves us makes the rough times easier to bear. For those who aren’t yet believers in Jesus, they need to know that while God does not protect believers from all harm, He does love us and what He allows to happen to believers will in the next life be turned into great joy. That’s hard to understand, but easier to believe when we know that God sent His only Son to the cross for us.

Although it’s saddening to see such anti-Israel and anti-Jewish hatred nowadays, we shouldn’t be surprised. Because the Word of God tells us that the nations will come against Israel and Jerusalem. Nonetheless, I think it’s worth discussing the profound evil that’s behind the anti-Israel and anti-Jewish hatred. Of course it’s not just the U.S. government, UN, EU, and politicians that are overtly and covertly involved in attempts to destroy Israel. Of course Muslim nations are. But there are wicked people and organizations that are working behind the scenes. For example, George and Alex Soros and their ilk, and so-called non-profits and foundations funded by Soros et al and dark money.
