  1. Yes. He’s coming back, too, and when He does, He’ll take over the fighting, and evil will be conquered forever. God speed that blessed Day!

Thank you, Kristi Ann, for posting this. And for those who are too young to know the history, this song was written during the War Between the States. “I have seen His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps” was written by one who was there, in a Union camp at night.

“I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel” was literal. The author was looking at rows of foot soldiers with bayonets fixed, ready to charge the enemy.

“He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before the Judgment Seat!” This has been going on since the day the First Couple ate the Everyone who’s spent a single minute here knows Kristi Ann’s answer. God bless you, sister!

For those who are too young to have been given true history lessons, this song and the war it describes are one half of the answer to the accusation that America is or was a racist nation. 100,000 Northerners, almost every one of them white, died in the war to end slavery in America. I am glad the North won, and I say that as one who was born in Montgomery, Alabama. My mother was born in Georgia, and Mother’s mother was a Daughter of the Confederacy.

Many good things have come form the South. It has truthfully been called “The Bible Belt”. But on slavery the South was wrong.

And on sin, all of us are wrong. God in His infinite mercy has made a way that we can be declared righteous and given eternal life and citizenship in Heaven. That way is faith in Jesus. The litmus test is, “Do I believe that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, having no guilt of His own, and three days later God the Father raised Him from the dead? Other issues may be important, but that is the only necessary thing to be saved.

    • I see that my computer was acting up again and transposed sentence fragment into the wrong place a couple of times. I think the general message got through, and I;m rushing to get a couple of chores done, so I’ll disregard for now and try to edit more carefully in future. Sorry for the confusion, friends.

  4. I’m not sure this is the latest post. I haven’t been here often enough to be sure of my way around. Thought I’d stop by and post some thoughts that came from my Bible study of the last two days…

When God appeared to Solomon in a dream and asked “What shall I give you?”, Solomon referred to his father David saying that he “…walked before You in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward You.”

Ah-hum, yes, except for a little matter of adultery and murder by proxy which split a nation, caused a civil war that left deep division in Israel, and caused deaths of many.

BUT GOD, as JD Farag likes to say – But God did not say anything about David’s extreme and inexcusable sins. Instead, God granted Solomon’s request and more, and then God said, “If you will walk in My ways, keeping My statutes and commandments, as your father David walked …”

If one of us had been present there and asked, “But what about Bathsheba?” God would have replied, “Bathsheba who?”

David’s record had been expunged! Just as God promised, “I will forgive their wickedness and remember their sins no more.” (Hebrews 8:12)

“I, even I, am He Who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” (Isaiah 43:25)

“Do not be afraid, you will not be shamed. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.” (Isaiah 54:4)

No wonder David wrote, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, whose sins are covered! Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin!”

We know that this is not permission to continue in sin. It’s assurance that God forgives us when we do sin, but if there is a habit of continual sin, there may have to be discipline to correct us. But the bottom line is,

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Messiah Jesus, because through Messiah Jesus the law of the Spirit Who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the Law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of human flesh to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the Law but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1-4)

  5. WHAT IS YOUR WORD WORTH? In the Old West” of America, a man’s word was important. Could he be trusted to fulfill his promises? In the then-sparsely populated Old West, it was often a matter of life and death. Would a man do the job he promised to do? Would he fulfill his part of a bargain? Would he cheat you? Would your neighbor help you in an emergency? Because there was no 911. Not even, in most cases, a law enforcement officer within reasonable distance.

The Holy One of Israel makes promises that sound like they come from a fantasy novel. The late Chuck Missler said that the promise of the Rapture was “the most preposterous belief of Christianity”. But he believed it. Why? Here’s why:

Joshua charging the elders of Israel as he is about to die: “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.”

The [three men] said to [Abraham], “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.” The LORD said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” The LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” But Sarah denied it,e saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”

And this promise was fulfilled: Sarah did have a son, Isaac, “the son of the promise” through whose line the Messiah was born.

Jesus speaking: “He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again.”

Fulfilled, and that promise shook the entire planet and changed things forever. The hope of forgiveness of sins and resurrection from the dead was made certain.

God’s words are certain and sure, because He and He alone is GOD, the all-powerful One. There is nothing too hard for the Lord! His promises WILL be fulfilled. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
